Don’t delegate up. Of course you can ask for help when you need it, but remember your boss has an onslaught of demands coming from all directions and probably feels like a soldier pinned down in a foxhole. He/she has demands from all of the direct reports like you but also from bosses, stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and many more. Your demands on your boss only add to that burden.
Look for opportunities to offer your help by taking things off of his or her desk. Doing this adds to your perceived value. It also provides additional development opportunities for you. Showing initiative in this way opens new doors for you in the future.
