79. Interview Your Boss

One of the most significant factors in job satisfaction is who you work for. A boss can teach you, lead you, and show you things you have never seen. That person can also make your life a living hell.

When applying for a job, we are so busy trying to get the job, we don’t ask ourselves if we really want to work for this person or company. We think our job is to answer the questions posed by the interviewer so we get the job.

Just like you have your game face on when you interview, the other person does too. The interviewer is probably busy sharing how great the company is to work for while you are trying to show your superhero skills.

Just like they want to see what’s behind your game face, you need to see what’s behind the interviewer’s game face. Have well-framed questions for any interview to get past the mask. A great place to start is by simply asking, “Can you describe the company’s culture?” and go from there. Follow up with questions about how they handle problems, feedback, plan for the future, etc

What questions can I ask that will give me an insight into a company, the job, and the culture?
