89. Advocate for Your Work

Let others, especially your boss, know about the work you are performing. People need to know what you do and the value your work brings to the com­pany and to your customers. Focus on promoting your work.

Some shy away from doing this because it seems self-serving. Of course, those who promote themselves can alienate others. Instead of drawing attention to yourself, remember to draw attention to your work. The company and your lead­ers are making decisions about investments in specific work activities. They need to know if those investments are worth it. It’s not about you, it’s about the work.
